Subaru Outback (BR): Basic information about tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

Subaru Outback (BR) 2010-2015 Owners Manual / Starting and operating / Basic information about tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

The tire pressure monitoring system provides the driver with a warning message

The tire pressure monitoring system alerts the driver by transmitting a signal from a sensor in each wheel when tire pressure drops significantly.

This system activates when the vehicle reaches speeds above 20 mph (32 km/h) and may not respond immediately to sudden drops in tire pressure, such as a blow-out from hitting a sharp object.

Warning: If the low tire pressure warning light comes on while driving, avoid sudden braking and gradually reduce speed while continuing straight. Then, pull off the road slowly to a safe location to prevent accidents involving vehicle damage or personal injury.

Ensure all four tires are properly inflated to the COLD tire pressure indicated on the tire placard on the driver’s side door pillar.

Even after short drives, tires warm up and their pressures increase. Allow the tires to cool before adjusting pressures to standard values. The tire pressure monitoring system does not operate when the vehicle is stationary. After adjusting tire pressures, accelerate to at least 20 mph (32 km/h) to initiate TPMS re-checking. If tire pressures are above the severe low pressure threshold, the warning light should turn off shortly after.

If the warning light remains illuminated after adjusting tire pressure, a tire may have significant damage or a fast leak. Replace a flat tire with a spare as soon as possible.

When mounting a spare tire or replacing a wheel rim without transferring the original pressure sensor, the low tire pressure warning light will blink for about one minute before staying steadily lit. Contact a SUBARU dealer promptly for tire and sensor replacement or system reset.

Avoid injecting tire liquid or aerosol tire sealant, as this can disrupt tire pressure sensors. If the warning light remains steady after blinking for about a minute, seek inspection by a SUBARU dealer.

Caution: Avoid placing metal film or parts under the driver’s seat, as this can interfere with tire pressure sensor signals, causing the monitoring system to malfunction.
